Three-body decays of heavy Dirac and Majorana fermions

چکیده
Nonzero neutrino masses imply the existence of degrees freedom and interactions beyond those in Standard Model. A powerful indicator what these might be is nature massive neutrinos: Dirac fermions versus Majorana fermions. While addressing neutrinos often associated with searches for lepton-number violation, there are several other features that distinguish from Here, we compute great detail kinematics daughters decays into charged-leptons hypothetical heavy neutral leptons at rest. We allow decay to mediated by most general four-fermion interaction Lagrangian. demonstrate, example, when daughter have same flavor or detector insensitive their charges, polarized Majorana-fermion zero forward-backward asymmetry direction outgoing (relative parent spin), whereas Dirac-fermion can large asymmetries. Thermodynamic Equations of State for Dirac and Majorana Fermions
The thermodynamic equations of state for Majorana and Dirac fermions are quite different even in the limit of zero mass. The corresponding equations are derived from general principles, and then applied to neutrinos. The nature of the approach to equilibrium is explored, along with the subtleties of low or zero mass neutrinos interacting via purely left-handed currents. Possible applications to...
متن کاملThree-dimensional Majorana fermions in chiral superconductors
Using a systematic symmetry and topology analysis, we establish that three-dimensional chiral superconductors with strong spin-orbit coupling and odd-parity pairing generically host low-energy nodal quasiparticles that are spin-nondegenerate and realize Majorana fermions in three dimensions. By examining all types of chiral Cooper pairs with total angular momentum J formed by Bloch electrons wi...
متن کاملMajorana fermions and non-Abelian statistics in three dimensions.
We show that three dimensional superconductors, described within a Bogoliubov-de Gennes framework, can have zero energy bound states associated with pointlike topological defects. The Majorana fermions associated with these modes have non-Abelian exchange statistics, despite the fact that the braid group is trivial in three dimensions. This can occur because the defects are associated with an o...
متن کاملQuantum phases of disordered three-dimensional Majorana-Weyl fermions
The gapless Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) quasiparticles of a clean three dimensional spinless px + ipy superconductor provide an intriguing example of a thermal Hall semimetal (ThSM) phase of Majorana-Weyl fermions; such a phase can support a large anomalous thermal Hall conductivity and protected surface Majorana-Fermi arcs at zero energy. We study the effects of quenched disorder on such a gapl...
متن کاملTopological Superfluids: Majorana Fermions
The subject of topological superfluids, though they were not originally called by that name, actually antedates that of topological insulators, and has played a major role in the attempt to implement topological quantum computation (see lectures 26 and 28). Crudely speaking, the analogy with TI’s goes as follows: in a crystalline solid with spin-orbit coupling, the single-particle energy eigens...
